BAPTISM

WATER BAPTISM

IMMERSED IN WATER, WE PUBLICLY IDENTIFY WITH JESUS AS PARTICIPANTS IN HIS DEATH, BURIAL + RESURRECTION.

MATTHEW 28:18-19 NIV | Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..."

Baptism is an outward expression of a personal identification with Jesus—participating in His death, burial, and resurrection. It's a powerful symbol of leaving behind your old life and embracing the new life that He offers.

As an act of obedience, baptism represents your commitment to follow Jesus in faith. In it, you proclaim to the world that you've turned away from sin and have been made new in Christ. It’s an exciting moment that celebrates God’s work in your life and reminds you that He has saved you, is with you, and will continue His good work in you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Baptism is a sacred celebration of an individual’s faith in Jesus. It is a public declaration of a personal commitment to turn from sin and follow him. It is also a symbol of what Jesus has done for us and what he does within us. Just as Jesus died, was buried, and was raised to new life, so too, through faith in him, our old, sinful way of life is buried, and we are raised to brand-new life with him (Romans 6:3-4). As a church, we encourage baptism by immersion (going beneath the water) as a powerful picture of this new life.
WHY SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?
In the simplest terms, baptism is an act of obedience. Scripture repeatedly tells us to take this step when we begin our journey of following Jesus.
DO YOU BAPTIZE INFANTS + CHILDREN?
The biblical pattern of faith is to believe in Jesus, then be baptized. For instance, speaking to the crowd at Pentecost, Peter says: “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38 NIV). It goes on to say that this is the model for everyone - for those listening and their children - and that “Those who accepted his message were baptized…” (verses 39, 41 NIV).

Baptism follows belief and repentance, which is a conscious choice that each individual must make for themselves. For this reason, we baptize those who have made a personal decision to believe in and follow Jesus, whatever their age. While we do not baptize infants, we do practice dedication, which is a special service to bless infants and devote them to God.
I WAS BAPTIZED AS AN INFANT. SHOULD I TO BE BAPTIZED AGAIN?
Yes! The biblical pattern of faith is to believe in Jesus, and then be baptized (see Acts 2:38, 41). In keeping with this, we encourage everyone who decides to follow Jesus to likewise make a personal choice to be baptized. If you have not been baptized since you chose to follow Jesus, we would love to help you take this very important, life-changing step.
IS BAPTISM NECESSARY FOR SALVATION?
Baptism is a picture of the saving work that God has already done in our life. While it is an important step of obedience that every Christian should take, it is our faith in Jesus Christ that saves us.

ACTS 16:30-31 NIV | He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
